Free will baptist VETERAN speaks AT
WWII MEMORIAL

WASHINGTON, D.C. On October 7, 2005, retired Free Will Baptist pastor, Francis Boyle, addressed veterans gathered to honor their fallen comrades at the World War II Memorial in Washington. A member of the 526th Armored Infantry Battalion, Boyle spent seven months fighting in Belgium during WWII, including the crucial Battle of the Bulge where more than half of the soldiers in his unit were killed. Vice-President Dick Cheney was among the dignitaries who attended the service.

The energetic pastor was a charter member of the effort to raise funds for the WWII Memorial. He spent more than 20 years helping to raise the $120,000,000 dollars needed to build the landmark. The October 7 ceremony, however, was Boyle’s first opportunity to visit the site since its completion.

TENNESSEE PROMOTIONAL DIRECTOR STEPS DOWN

NASHVILLE, TN Dr. Charles Thigpen, promotional director for the Tennessee State Association of Free Will Baptists since 1991, announced his decision to step down from the position effective January 2007. Thigpen assumed the direction of the state ministry after retiring as president of Free Will Baptist Bible College in Nashville.

The TN Executive Committee extended a standing vote of commendation to Dr. Thigpen for his service to the state work during their January meeting. Although serving in a part-time capacity, he has visited numerous churches and encouraged hundreds of leaders throughout the state. Thigpen reached beyond the TN State Association to independent FWB churches, in an effort to unite them with the state and national associations. His work resulted in the formation of at least two district associations and brought several independent churches into existing associations.

The Executive Committee is searching for a replacement to become the first full-time Promotional Director for Tennessee in more than 20 years. Persons interested in the position may contact Moderator Robert Hobbs for an application. He may be reached by telephone at (865) 933-1746 or by email at raheph413@cs.com. All applications should be in the hands of the Executive Committee by May 31, 2006. The Executive Committee plans to introduce the new promotional director at the TN State Association meeting in November.

ONE MAGAZINE AD TOUCHES HEARTS

YORK, PA Jenny Hall, recently appointed missionary to York, Pennsylvania, made the following comments about an ad in ONE Magazine:

WOW! WHAT A PRECIOUS PICTURE and caption you used for the back of the October-November 2005 issue of ONE Magazine! I don't know if it touched anyone else's heart as it did ours, but it had a huge impact on my husband and me. You see, when that issue arrived in the mail, we were struggling with whether or not we should leave our comfort zone and join the Free Will Baptist Home Missions team to go and plant a church. We strongly felt the Lord’s leading, and we had been praying about the move for some time. We have a two and a half year old daughter who would be impacted by our decision as well. There are numerous arrangements to make, good-byes to say, and so much to think about before aking such a big move.

We received our copy of ONE Magazine and eagerly began to read through it. When we saw the little girl in that picture on the back cover, looking so alone, perhaps physically as well as spiritually, all we could see was our precious little girl who does have a Free Will Baptist church in her city because years ago, someone came to Chocowinity, NC.

Although this was not the ultimate deciding factor, it was just one of the many ways that God chose to confirm our decision to follow Him and plant a church in the York, PA area. Thank you, ONE staff, for being an instrument used by God to touch the hearts of Free Will Baptists.
