HILLSDALE INAUGURATES NEW PRESIDENT

MOORE, OK Hillsdale Free Will Baptist College will inaugurate Timothy W. Eaton as its ninth president during a special ceremony August 14. The inauguration will take place at 5 p.m. in the bill and Alma Lou Barber Center on campus.

Eaton was selected president by the Hillsdale Board of Trustees in July 2004. A native of Joplin, MO, Eaton has been a member of the administration at Hillsdale since 1989 and has more than 22 years experience in education. Prior to becoming president, he was academic vice president at the college. He also has served as dean of students, financial aid director, and international student director.

Eaton earned his bachelor’s degree from Hillsdale. He graduated with a Master of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1979. He also holds a Masters of Education in Adult Learning from the University of Oklahoma and is currently a PhD candidate at OU, where he is completing a degree in Adult Learning and Higher Education Administration. His dissertation is scheduled to be completed in 2005.

Eaton also has been an adjunct professor for Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and Western Baptist College, both in Missouri, and is currently regional accreditation coordinator for the Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools (TRACS).

He is a member of the board for Randall House Publications and was a member of the Higher Education Task Force for the National Association of Free Will Baptists from 2000 to 2004.

He has served as pastor of the Farmington, MO FWB Church, Love Temple, Ft. Worth, and Victory FWB in Kansas City. He was associate pastor at the First FWB Church in Ardmore, OK, and is currently associate pastor of the Newcastle, OK, FWB church.

 

WHO ARE MASTER’S MEN?

ANTIOCH, TN The National association of Free Will Baptist Master’s Men Department will celebrate their fiftieth anniversary in 2006, yet many people know little about this department.

Master’s Men builds Free Will Baptist churches across our denomination, especially Home Mission churches. They send working mission teams to many foreign countries to help with building projects. Master’s Men partners with other national department and agencies to promote Free Will Baptist interests.

WV EMPHASIZES UNITY

HUNTINGTON, WV United We Stand Together was the theme at the 60th annual meeting of the West Virginia State Association of Free Will Baptists which met June 10 and 11, 2005 at the Sunshine Free Will Baptist Church in Huntington, WV. More than 240 attended the meeting that featured speakers Norwood Webb, Earl White, and Danny Baer. Pastors and their wives enjoyed a breakfast featuring speaker Bert Tippett, director of public relations, FWB Bible College.

During the business meeting, delegates retained Moderator Ivan Asbury and elected officers Luther Morgan, assistant moderator; Norwood Webb, clerk; and Keith Hadley, assistant clerk. A motion was made to accept property donated to the association as a future building site for a state office.

The 2006 association will meet at the Parsley Bottoms FWB Church in Lenore, WV, June 9-10.

NEW MEXICO ASSOCIATION MEETS

Albuquerque, NM The 37th annual meeting of the New Mexico District Association met April 8, 9 at the Mountain View FWB Church. Featured speakers included Richard Atwood, director of missionary assistance for the National Home Missions Department; Keith Burden, executive secretary of the National Association of FWBs; and Jerry McArthur, pastor of First FWB Church in Hobbs, NM. Delegates to the meeting reelected moderator, Mark Shores. Also elected were assistant moderator, Jerry McArthur; clerk, Christine Swafford; and assistant clerk, Doris Heard. Women Active for Christ sponsored a banquet prepared and served by Kristi Shores of the Mountain View FWB Church. Sandi Atwood spoke at the dinner. The 2006 association will meet April 7, 8 at First United FWB Church in Hobbs, NM.

 

FLORIDA MEETING COOKS UP NEW WAYS TO PRAY

JACKSONVILLE, FL Delegates to the 61st meeting of the Florida State Association enjoyed an unusual presentation during a luncheon sponsored by FWAC. The Edgmons and the McVays, missionaries to Spain, presented a skit entitled, “Cooking in Spain,” which taught those in attendance how to pray for missions more effectively.

The association also honored 2004-2005 Moderator, Tim Owen, for 10 years of effective leadership and recognized Executive Secretary Randy Bryant for his work among Florida Free Will Baptists.

The business session saw a $455,000 budget passed as delegates elected Paul Smith, moderator; Donnie Hussey, assistant moderator; and David Baker, clerk. The group also voted to continue the Hurricane Relief Fund (established to assist churches in the wake of the hurricanes of 2004) and to initiate the Macedonia Fund that will lend financial aid to struggling churches. The two-day meeting featured speakers Rev. Danny Conn, Rev. Randy Bryant, and Rev. Anthony Edgmon.

The 2006 Florida Association of Free Will Baptists will meet April 26-28, 2006 at the Jacksonville Marriott in Jacksonville, FL.

CLYATT HONORED AT IL STATE MEETING

MT. VERNON, IL The Illinois association of Free Will Baptists recently honored Rev. Larry Clyatt for more than thirty years of service to the state. The honor came at their 45th annual session held at First FWB Church in Mt. Vernon.

While at the meeting, delegates adopted a budget of more than $325,000 and elected the following officers: David Burgess, moderator; Gene Outland, assistant moderator; Larry Cook, clerk; and Travis Penn, assistant clerk.

Highlights of the meeting included messages by featured speaker David Crowe, director of missionary assistance for the Home Missions Department and a seminar on the subject of publicity and promotion by Bert Tippett, director of public relations at Free Will Baptist Bible College. The 2006 meeting will be held at First FWB Church in Mt. Vernon on March 17, 18.
